The Dust Settles: Instapaper and 9to5
/![]()
Over the last day or so there was a bit of an issue between Instapaper and the 9to5 sites in which Instapaper was being blocked from saving articles written at 9to5.
Marco, the creator of Instapaper, has just posted an explanation for the whole ordeal on the official Instapaper blog detailing what happened, why it did. It seems 9to5 made some untrue and hurtful claims about Instapaper and refused to change them. Doing all he could, Marco blocked 9to5 from Instapaper to "wait for the dust to settle". Now that it has, here is what Marco had say:
In retrospect, that was an overreaction. 9to5Mac’s statements, as much as they angered and scared me, did not constitute an opt-out. Furthermore, it was inappropriate to add a publisher to the opt-out list that did not explicitly request it.
I’ve now reversed that decision, and I’m sorry that I overreacted.
In summary, 9to5 has made a lot of people angry over what they did to Instapaper, and Marco has strengthened people's trust in Instapaper to do the right thing and in himself being a true gentleman.
